The Spring Invitational Exhibition opening reception set for March 20
March 13 2026Auburn, Ala. – The Auburn Arts Association and the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (JDCAC) invite the public to celebrate the opening of the Spring Invitational Exhibition with a reception on Friday, March 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the JDCAC.
The Spring Invitational Exhibition features a wide variety of new and recent works by four artists, each working in a different medium of art.
It includes current paintings by Anne Herbert, a faculty member at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. Her acrylic on muslin works have been widely exhibited in numerous regional, juried and curated shows throughout the South.
A series of six drawings by Birmingham artist Ty Smith will also be included in this show. Ty taught as an adjunct professor at several universities including Auburn University, where he also worked as an exhibition preparator at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. He is well known for his minimalist charcoal and ink drawings.
Photography and collages by Auburn University Professor Emeritus Curtis Shannon are featured in the exhibition. The works on display represent the successful results of his personal method of combining multiple photographs through montage, assemblage, and collage techniques to create new images and expanded possibilities for meaning.
Multidisciplinary artist Changsong Woo has ten black and white mixed media artworks included in this exhibition, from her series titled “Intertwined Memories”. Changsong was born and raised in South Korea, then traveling to Florida State University where she received her MFA and taught as an adjunct professor.
Their selected works will be on display in the Gallery from March 10 – April 18.
